Wow, that's sad to hear! If this info is indeed true, it's worrying, considering there will be no support down the line.Today I visited my local HiFi shop and listened to the Revel driven by a couple of Linn Klimax Solo 800 power amps and a Linn Klimax DSM pre-amplifier/streamer.
The Revel PerformaBe F228Be sounded great, but the sad part was that the shop owner said Samsung/Harman will stop making speakers under the Revel brand. I have not heard this information before, if this is true it remains to be seen if they will sell the brand or if they will just kill it off their product line. Has anyone else heard anything

My intention was to buy end-game speakers which I could live with for a long, long time, now I'm in a tizzy!
I recall reading something along these lines on this forum, but it was based more on conjecture, but I happened to read the same on, "AV Forums" as well, so it's hard to separate fact from fiction.
Perhaps, I should wait till September and see if Revel introduces the Performa 4 line of speakers, an action that would give some indication in which direction the brand is headed.
Frankly speaking, Goat76, what would you do in my situation? Buy or wait?
Hi, (I hate saying goat!)The owner of my local HiFi shop is a guy I trust, but I also searched for more information about this on the net without finding any. Maybe you should wait and see if more information will pop up about this in the coming months.
Hi, (I hate saying goat!)
Do you recall if the JBL's had smooth, clean high's? Smooth, strong midrange? Bass, I know is good enough.
Hoping Revel releases Performa 4 at CEDIA Expo in September, this year!
OK, so basically imaging was the biggest issue, yes, that is likely to bother me too, I'm a bit on the finicky side, so making a blind-buy would indeed be foolhardy, especially after being made aware of a known issue!Mind you, it was some time ago I had that demo.
The only thing I remember was that they sounded fine except for that strange double-effect with the tweeters. That would be a deal breaker for me as the speakers attracted way too much attention to themselves because of that. Instead of sounds coming from different phantom positions in the whole stereo field, it just sounded as if most sounds were coming directly from the two speaker positions.
R11 and that’s it. No look further. It’s the best in terms of every metric, above and below its price. It’s pointless to spend more than its price in hifi. That's pretty wild trio. 3500, 6500 and 12000€ around here (pair, tax included).
Revels are the best but you could own both JBL and KEF for the price and still have money for nice Purifi amplification.
KEF R11 is very far from the basic Q's. It's an extremely smooth balanced speaker.
Haven't heard the JBL, I don't much appreciate their style in general and I find it hard to associate that design with smooth highs. But I could be wrong of course.
Went to have a listen today, for a used pair, you're right, I didn't care too much for the soundstage and imaging.OK, so basically imaging was the biggest issue, yes, that is likely to bother me too, I'm a bit on the finicky side, so making a blind-buy would indeed be foolhardy, especially after being made aware of a known issue!
Many Thanks once again!
No measurements from triton? Or do you have why it’s better than the jbl ?Went to have a listen today, for a used pair, you're right, I didn't care too much for the soundstage and imaging.
I expected far more from JBL after reading rave reviews from Audioholics and others, found them, at best-- just average-- And, definitely my Triton's sound better!
So Revel, it will have to be!
Thanks for taking the time and trouble to write-in!I know you are asking for floorstanding speakers, but have you considered March Audio Sointuva AWG from Australia? They have very low bass extension rivaling most floorstanding speakers, not that you would use it much as you plan to use with subs. Excellent dispersion, lowest distortion, and bookshelfs+stands are probably going to cost less than floorstandings.
The HDI3800 I auditioned was run on a 25-year-old Marantz, low-powered amp, I now suspect that, that was the reason for the extremely poor audio quality, and not the speakers themselves! No measurements from triton? Or do you have why it’s better than the jbl ?
P.S: Unfortunately, there seem to be no measurements of the Triton's themselves, at least that was the case when I bought them 3 years ago, so it was just a case of hearing the perceived difference. The HDI3800 I auditioned was run on a 25-year-old Marantz, low-powered amp, I now suspect that, that was the reason for the extremely poor audio quality, and not the speakers themselves!
It would still be a gamble to purchase them on mere speculation though, so have decided to go in for the F228Be, if Revel do not introduce the new Performa4 series at CEDIA in September this year.
It's direct purchase and shipped from Australia. It's how I bought mine here in Brazil. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to write-in!
Unfortunately, there are no dealers/importers of March Audio in India.
