Hi everyone,

I am in total disbelief. Just registered to find some advice or comment of someone with more experience than me.
Listening for years now with good and bad gear. Today I finished my project with the Markaudio Pluvia 11, Topping La90 and REW+EQ APO for room correction.

The position where the speakers stand is terrible. In corners and close to the wall. Bass ports are on the side of the speakers. The room is not square, as a big "edge" to the right where I sit (sofa with 0,5m to the back wall) and is approx. 5*5 m minus the 1,20*1,20 edge.

But the sound is incredible. Honestly I can't believe my ears. I am so sorry to myself for not listening in this quality all my past years...I have some Yamaha Hs8 at my office or the truthear red headphones for reference ... I really thought that I know some sound quality... but what I hear right now is unreal in comparison... so far the subjective experience.

1) How about the last REW measurement (1/24)?

Is it ok?? Using a harman curve as reference. Can I improve it further? REW is still suggesting multiple Eqs but the measurement is getting worth now if I add more of them.

Some reference songs/experiences... (source is tidal)
I can hear the Bass in 3D for example in Unholy-Sam Smith, Kim Petras;
I can hear every crispy detail from Bubbles-Yosi Horikawa (I tested every piece of equipment I owned or could test at a friend with this for more than four years now...never heard it's details like that);
I can hear the texture of the snare in Blue in Green-Miles Davis;
I can hear the setting up of the snare and the whispers of the audience in Roads (Live Roseland NYC) - Portishead like I am standing there next to it;
And of course Dominique Fils-Airme "Feeling Good" is like being touched by her voice... and Stings "Shape of my Heart" fills the room like I get beamed into a cathedral.

At my listening spot I measure an average of 70dB(a) for day time use. And with 58-60dB(a) for night time I still have a lot of bass and detail. REW measurements stay stable on both the day and night max vol. settings.

2) And with all my love for building some speakers by myself and learning to measure from the Internet and improve sound quality with free tools... How can I go on to improve within the limits of a living or an office room ;-)...
for example for the office some studio monitors that measure them self's? Neumann or Genelec with DSP instead of the yamaha hs8 or Geithain Rl 906 for more 3d room? Or can I build smaller pluvia 11 speakers for near field?

The Yamaha Hs8 reached the max. improvement on REW, there are no more eqs suggested, but the precision of instrument s and the 3d room is still not even close to the DIY pluvia 11 with he topping amp. Is this a general near field issue? The yamaha Speakers are standing on a large desktop.

Since you used Harman preference curve it might be good to read some things by the right person:

Thanks for the link.

I took the term "house curve" very literally, so I'm used to the sound of the curve I've been using for more than three years now. The system is calibrated for exactly one listening position. I therefore have no problems with the formation of averages.

What measurements indicate how well the imaging in depth and placement of the instruments is taking pla ce?

Welcome to the world of full range speakers! :)
I have sold all my previous multi-way systems and started building my own full-ranges some 4 years ago, you can see my projects here:

With DSP they will definitely sound better than the HS8, I am not surprised at all - and there was a guy here who replaced his Genelecs with a pair of CHN110 builds....

Just a few comments if I may:
- using one or two subs will do wonders (of course with proper integration, etc.)
- try Dirac 3.10.3 with the 9-point measurement - again you will be searching for your jaws on the floor
- to answer your question about near-field: you just need to build a desktop setup using Markaudio or other full-range brands (take a look at my projects too)

Good luck!

Definitely will look into your projects.

Right now I am planning already my desktop project with MAOP 11 in a 17 liter King of Swingers.

Regarding Dirac, I tried it a few weeks ago and had no "Wow moment". Maybe I am using it wrong.

With REW and EQ APO I really like that I can stack as many filters as I need to... of course the result is a very narrow sweet spot but that's okay for me.

In the living room project above with Pluvia 11 and 12 eq APO filters (approx. over 150 points of eq) there is no need for a sub. Bass is there and precise. Meanwhile I think it is an incredible good luck situation that the speakers and the room resonate in such a way.

For the Maop King near-field set up a definitively will test sub integration.

Today I tried to reproduce the result.

All 12 eqs off in eq apo and start by zero.

Within 5 rounds of 5-15 rew measurements plus eq applications, I haven't got the same results.

Especially the bass below 30 hz wasn't improved as above by rew.

The worst test was Eqs in rew for 20 - 70 and then to 400 etc. till reaching 20.000 hz. It looked in rew very promising but sounded terrible.

Best results were 20-20000hz eq filters and 7-15 of them in a row in eq APO.
BTW.
Not using the recommended dB for the house curve is important! If I always click on adjust to measurement it goes lower and lower and sounds terrible again. So keeping a dB set after the first correction and only changing it by 0.2-0.5, if the calculated filters going somewhere weird, showed the best results.
