A little late to the game here, and not sure how “retro” you would consider, but if you ever come across a pair of Energy 22 Reference connoisseurs, especially with blown tweeter(s), give them a hard look. The price is actually going up, but if lucky enough to find a local pair (too heavy/big to be a value with shipping), the tweeters can be rebuilt to original OEM spec/condition. I have had a lot of speakers go in and out here in the last 40 years, but still use 2 pairs here (and spare woofers/tweeters stripped from the “bookshelf” version). Cheap pair with bad tweeters is best as these need periodic tweeter ferro-fluid replacement, so paying a lot for a working pair with unserviced tweeters is not going to show their capability.
