So fomo got me and I got a 5g phone.

What to do with my old phone: 12 gig Ram 512 gig storage and 512 SD card?

First turned on flight mode and turned location et al off.

Deleted all apps I no longer need.

Installed Eddict music player for instant DAP player for mobile music playback and jriver remote for use at home with jriver. I also use to control my wiim.

Frees up my new phone for phone and web use and slows battery drain.

Should be no problem to sell such a high end phone.
True, but new phone only has 128gb and no SD slot. Having dedicated music player is convenient for my lifestyle. The Samsung was bought to be Swiss army knife but in reality switching apps is not always best practice.

You can also install Google Voice on it and it's a Wifi phone with a real number for voice and text. It's a free service. I use a spare phone with all the UPS and FedEx apps to keep on when waiting for a package to arrive.

LineageOS and /e/ can be a way to keep up to date after the manufacturer stops providing updates, so long as the bootloader can be unlocked and they've managed to get the drivers working. The wiki lists devices with 'official' support with everything in a good state. You can add google's apps or not with LineageOS, depending on preference.

For those wanting lower level control you might get lucky with PostmarketOS which currently has much more limited hardware support.
