I’d never describe any Zeiss lenses as crappy. I’ve used Zeiss lenses from the 1930’s -1960’s on Contax rangefinders. Even the old lenses are fantastic.

Most photographers now want hyper speed AF and smooth bokeh. No flare nor CA.

The old Zeiss lenses, while built like tanks, are NONE of that. The one thing they do have is razor sharpness wide open if you can nail focus. For some people, sharpness is enough. For others, like me? If it offers something unique, it’s workable — sharpness be damned.
