Today I visited a concert of Alinde wind Quintet at Prague Spring festival that took place at historical Carolinum hall of Charles University in Prague.

More aboute Alinde Quintet and the concert programme here:

I made a recording of the whole concert through X-Y mic setup of 2 microphones from about 2m distance from the quintet. For those who might be interested in this kind of music, I have uploaded Pavel Haas Wind Quintet Op. 10 to Dropbox:

It is an unprocessed recording in full dynamics in its raw form, with prevailing direct sound from the instruments.

Thanks!

Nice recording, has a bit of that "you are there" quality I guess due to minimal processing and a good capture. :)
Thank you, almost no processing except for final fade-out. “You are there” effect is due to close miking (2 - 4m), thus quite a lot of direct sound and clean sound of the instruments. Not everyone will prefer this way of recording, but I do.

I don't know what you did but the depth of this recording is top notch.
Reminds me my very favorite old recordings.
Nice performance too,I don't know the musicians but they must play together for a long time.

Thanks for that!

Very Nice, thank you. Amazing how good it sounds with just 2 Mic's and no processing.... seems like a lot of other recordings go to a lot more trouble with worse results.

Very Nice! Playing now. Thanks for sharing. :)

Those woodwinds sound fantastic and the one has a hollow spooky quality emotion to it. Very nice! I can dig and listen to this recording. Good work.

Sounds like a good space to record in. You did a nice job of placing the microphones. Just the right amount of fine detail on the instruments without loosing the size and sense of space. A good organic sound from the quintet playing together. I actually like that you left the audience sounds in rather than editing them out between parts. I'm not a competent musician to judge, but seems like they did their part here. Most commercial recordings of quintets are not equal in quality to your recording.

What microphones did you use?

Thank you very much. And you might be surprised how easy it is/was. Just make it simple.

And thank you all for the comments!

I'm really enjoying your recording. Thank you for sharing it with us!

I can only see one microphone and cannot tell what it is. Is it wireless?

The microphone you can see was only for the reason of introductury speech and was then removed. I recorded the concert with Zoom H1n handy recorder.

Very nice. My 17YO daughter is a flautist, so I shared this with her. On the same night, she was accompanying a choir here in a Canberra church.
