To me the vintage McIntosh look is a classic winner, although you do have to go back to the '60s for the full glory.
The supreme example is the C-22 tube preamp. Pictured is actually the "Commemorative" edition but it has all the originals styling ques the original 1963 version. Note the "prow" shaped end-pieces, the all-silver knobs, the glass from panel, (top only for this model), and the back-lit selection choices.
The current C-22 "Mrk 5" is OK but supply not as beautiful as the original design. The glass panel remains here as on almost all Macs over the year, but I've never likes the black-center knobs.
