I am a student at a film school looking to build a sound cart. I did some research and bought a Lectrosonics UMC16BL with Shure UA874 Active Directional Antenna. When I got everything assembled the antenna wasn't receiving power or getting signal. I haven't been able to find anywhere what the problem is. I've tried a variety of cables and still nothing. Should I get lectrosonics antennas in the hope they are compatible? or look for a Shure multicoupler?

Its not a compatability issue, but you should call Lectrosonics. They are really nice and will help.

also if you are buying sound equipment you should check this site out.

TBH their is so much it coud be but from what i know i think you have to have the unit opened up and enable the power. However your transmitter and Rx should still work. My antenna system is not powered so yur system should work anyway.

First guess is you are not configured correctly.

The Shure antenna is "active" which means it needs power.
By default the Lectrosonics does not provide antenna power.
Look on page 4 of the manual "Antenna Power Jumpers" for
an illustration. However, also read the note:
NOTE: These jumpers are ONLY to be used to
power the RF amp in a Lectrosonics UFM Series
filter/amp module or ALP Series Active LPDA
antenna through the coaxial cable
For long cable runs between the UMC

So, you Do Not use the internal antenna power supply.
What you want to power the antenna is called a "Bias T"
and a 12 V DC power supply, both inexpensive accessories.
The Bias T connects to the antenna cable and the power
supply connects to the Bias T. This is illustrated on page 4
of the manual, but not quite right for you. The place that
sold you the equipment should sell you what you need and
explain how to connect it.
