Jazz ♫ Music only | In the now, or recently, or that you love...

The Sanborn/Hutcherson above is nice. He did another nice one [without Joey DeFrancesco on organ, see below], with Mike Manieri on vibes instead, from 2003, timeagain. Allmusic liked it too, "Master saxophonist David Sanborn makes an astounding label debut with timeagain, and once again reminds his fans that he is firmly established as one of jazz's best alto saxophonists."

Nice Zoom tune with Joey in a trio. Please enjoy.

Regarding timeagain, it didn't sound as I expected from the description above. Organ? ("Joey DeFrancesco on organ")

Discogs state:

no organ, no Joey DeFrancesco.
Am I missing something?

I wondered why the organ sounded kinda subdued - because it wasn't there. Obviously not my most critical listen.

Oops. I still enjoyed the album, I hope you did as well.

From AllAboutJazz: "The subtitle of Blues to be There, the Detroit-based Planet D Nonet's latest album, is 'A Salute to Duke Ellington.' Ellington wrote 13 of the album's persuasive numbers, Billy Strayhorn 5... Ellington is represented almost exclusively by lesser-known compositions, most of which are no less colorful and charming than his more familiar themes.

Planet D roars from the start, and emulates the Duke's memorable dialect and essence on essays ranging from burners to blues.

While this isn't Ellington, it comes about as close as one could imagine to replicating his music. Kudos to the impressive Planet D Nonet for nurturing the blueprint."

The video is a nice performance of the album lead-off tune. Please enjoy some nice Duke interpretations.
