Is there any DAC with checksum capabilities?

I suppose errors that cause drop outs would be audible for sure, but let's just say that a numerical value a sample was wrong, but a valid possible number for a sample to have. That might not be heard.

Single sample worst case would be like an "impulse".

Here are three where there "should" be silence. Top, source data, bottom, in-room sound:

You'll hear a "tick". If your ears are real fast, you might hear three, as these are a millisecond (44 samples) apart.

Many design tradeoffs in the PC world are driven by cost. USB audio is just another example of designing for very cheap USB devices, like a dongle-DAC-Headphone-Amp. When accurate transfer of data is desired in a data streaming situation, the protocols deal with retransmission and the endpoint device has enough buffering to allow for retransmission (example: if next year the 768KHz at 32 bit format was the must have format, a device for that would need about 16KB of buffer to tolerate `a worst case retransmission time of of 5ms (.005 seconds).
