Hey everyone,

I’m having an issue with my Rane MP2016S mixer and looking for some expert advice. The mixer started making a rapid repetitive sound like "tactactactactac" non-stop and is no longer functioning correctly. The power button lights up, but not as brightly as usual.

I posted about this problem on Reddit, and someone suggested it might be due to an oscillating op amp (instability issue). Here’s the link to the Reddit post with a video of the problem: Reddit Post. However, I don't really understand what an oscillating op amp issue means or how to address it.

Has anyone here experienced something similar? Any advice on diagnosing or fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated. If repair is needed, could anyone recommend a good repair shop in London or the UK?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome to ASR!

Unless there's a very well known fault that all these mixers develop, you probably won't get a useful diagnosis via the Internet. It needs to go on a test bench and be analysed by someone with a service manual and/or schematic.

Something may be oscillating, but more measurements are required before an op-amp could be identified as the culprit. Personally, I would start with the PSU and confirm it's OK.

Thank you!! :)

Do you know where I can find anyone that could analyze it? I'm not sure where to start looking for someone with the right expertise and equipment.

Thank you very much for your help!

I found this thread as well, and I have to say, I am not an expert. That's why I am looking for someone who could analyze it for me.

At just a glance, I see there are dozens of op amps. Also, of course, there is a power supply section.

Does it make the repetitive sound on all outputs? When there is no input?

Yes, it makes a repetitive sound on all outputs when there is no input other than the power cable plugged in.
