I've been running a Emo PT1 as a preamp for about 6 months but never happy with the sound. It has a high/low pass filter set at 90 hz. My system includes: Wharfedale Linton, RSL Speedwoofer 10s mkii, Emotiva BASX A2 amp, cd transport, Wiim streamer, Schiit Modi dac...My issue was I could never get the bass right. It was a bit uncontrolled, and directional (I could tell the subs location). Also wasn't getting the full sound I wanted.

Well, contacted Emotiva and they let me trade up to the PT2 and bought back the PT1. Wow what a difference! PT2 has an adjustable high/low pass filter and I chose 50ish hz since the Lintons go down to 40. Adjusted the sub volume just a smidge, and the bass is perfect and the Lintons sound so much fuller. I had to check the sub a couple times to be sure it was on, but it definitely was putting out the low end on my test tracks. The PT1 wasn't bad, but that fixed 90 hz cutoff is just too high. If they would lower it to 50 or 60 it would have been great.

Anyway, just wanted to share this info in case any was considering these preamps. It would be nice if they offered a simple (cheaper) preamp without the dac and phono preamp,
but the high/low filtering is so nice it worth getting this unit.

Glad you found a solution that made you happy. Your findings here are more general than Emotiva gear, though. Pretty much any competently designed preamp (or DAC/preamp) with adjustable high/low-pass filters should make successful sub integration much easier.

Yes it definitely is more general than Emotiva specific except that adjust bass management is pretty rare in 'affordable' products.

hopefully the manufacturers will get the message that it is a 'good thing'. The recent WiiM streamer/preamp that Amir reviewed has it at a reasonable price point, so there's hope
