2.1 Preamp -- Any recommendations other than Parasound P6?

After several years with a 5.1 system, I'm going back to stereo. We've downsized to a smaller home in retirement.

My mains are Kef 107/2's driven by a pair of Hafler 9300's bridged mono. The sub is a home-made sealed unit built around the NHT-1259 driver.

I have been using my Denon AVR-4520 receiver as a 2.1 preamp, but it is now 20 years old, and showing its age. My budget is ~$1500.

The Parasound Halo P6 and Emotiva PT2 are on the radar, but are there any others I'm missing within my budget? I like the fact that they both have variable low-pass and high-pass filters and multiple analog and digital inputs. The inputs to the Hafler amps are single-ended, so no need for XLR, except for future upgradability, certainly a plus.

Neither manufacturer posts meaningful measurements (few do), and neither of these has passed through Amir's hands, so I'm flying a bit blind on these two, which makes me a bit nervous.

One option I'm considering is to ditch the sub and go with the Topping P90, but I do like the bass extension with the powered sub, so 2.1 is desired.

Thoughts from the community would be much appreciated!

Hi @Aluts5555! Welcome to ASR.

Have you considered the WiiM Ultra?

Thank you. No, I missed that one. Seems however that the front panel interface is rather peculiar. Pretty good performance, though!

Thanks for the quick reply!

You also might consider the MiniDSP Flex. It can sort of do it all including digital room correction with Dirac and more. Has 4 outputs which can be configured as two stereo and two sub outs among other possibilities. Basic version is $495. Amir has reviewed the balanced version here, but you can get it balanced or RCA. Only one analog input, but you could add a switch box for more if needed.

Maybe spend some time reading the manual would be useful.

Hey, you might be onto something here! I certainly will review the manual. The price is right, too -- Thanks for the suggestion!

All, I have ordered the MiniDSP Flex.

Many thanks to StaticV3 and Blumlein 88 for their suggestions.

And special thanks to Amir for his measurements database -- tremendous contribution to this passion of ours!
