Good afternoon. I have a quick question. How good of a solution would be if I have a pair of DSP speakers (for example, the Pioneer DJ VM-50 which has been reviewed by Erin here) and a pair of subwoofers (Monolith by Monoprice 8" THX), run them through a SMSL DL200 DAC (balanced for speakers and unbalanced for subwoofers) and set the speakers' DSP lows setting (can be seen in the link above) to decrease the bass they produce from 200hz and below, in order to reduce speakers' distortion? Is this at least a somewhat acceptable alternative to the popular solutions such as the MiniDSP? Thanks!

Yes.

There is an extensive list of benefits you can get by using a MiniDSP or some kind of active crossover to remove bass frequencies from your main speakers. Lowering distortion on your speaker's woofers is only one of them. The others have to do with better integration making for a more seamless experience. Unfortunately the learning curve goes up, because DSP is not easy. But if your aim is to reduce your speaker's distortion, then what you are proposing will work.
