Dan Clark Audio AEON (2 Noire et al.) - how to lay them down?

Hi,
this may sound like a silly question - but I‘m always struggling how to lay my headphones down.

i want to avoid damaging the Hirose-connectors - if this is even possible (any bad experiences anywhere?)
Laying them down with the connectors up means to put them onto the folding mechanism.

Any „best practices“ in that?

I know that a headphone stand would be the best solution - but it‘s not everywhere available where I like to take the HPs off.
