As long as the device supports the USB-Audio 2.0 standard, it is just less trouble, as you don't install any drivers that come with "magic" stuff that you never get under control in Windows. My M2 has not even a mixer implemented in the ALSA layer, and you have devices where you are sure that no resampling will ever occur because they just can't. Access to alsa devices is exclusiv. For normal desktop operation you would consider that a disadvantage, but if you do recording it is a feature that no other application or something has access to the device you are using for recording. Considered in this way, it is not the identical with Windows, where you must make sure that all the x different level and mixer settings are adjusted and all effect plugins are disabled before you start recording.
