Hi everyone, I hope this topic hasn't been discussed too many times?
I have an Apollo Solo audio interface and want to connect a Topping L50 to its monitor outputs (trs balanced). The Topping has a nice pass through function to use my monitor speakers when it it turned off. My question is about possible double amplification problems. Because the monitor output is amplified, what is the best way to set it up ( minimum volume from the Apollo / maximum vol or somewhere inbetween?) I dont want to blow the L50 up straight out of the box.
I hope to use my hifiman he400se phones for mixing through the L50.

Cheers Dennis

The Apollo Soso appears to come with 2 line-outputs jacks (6.35mm), I doubt they are amplified.

Hi @Dennisjoseph! Welcome to ASR.

Apollo Audio specify the Solo's maximum Line out voltage as 20.7dBu (=8.4Vrms).

For the L50, Topping specify an input sensitivity of 12.7 and 12.0Vrms in Low and Medium gain respectively.

Therefore, you can safely set your Solo to full output volume.

Thanks for the reply,
Looking forward to mixing with the He400se’s. Using realphones and eq them to the Harmon curve

Check out Waves NX of you have the chance.

Includes Harman correction based on @oratory1990's headphone measurements, which, for the 400se, seem to result in the best sound quality according to ASR members:

Very interesting,
I will have a study of the various correction measurements.
What i like about realphones 2.0 is that you can add your own eq. They have a ready made eq for the he400se but i can use the different versions of the harman curve and make my own eq settings. I believe the fewer alterations the better to the origional raw eq curve works best getting it more towards the Harman curve.
I have had good results eqing my old dt770pros using realphones and got good translations of my headphone mixes to various monitor and consumer speakers. You can try the mixes out within realphones on various speaker emulations before going to the real thing.
Cheers Dennis
