Hi, I need some advice on this. I just bought the Aune AR5000 and they'll be arriving in two weeks. I've been using the Qudelix 5k for two years, but I don't know if I should buy an amplifier for the AR5000. I know they are easy to drive, but last week I managed to go to a store and try some amplifiers I actually could feel a difference. I'm still new to this and I can't describe exactly what I felt, but everything was better. It wasn't just the volume because I lowered it a lot and I still could feel the difference. I got the idea to use the Qudelix 5k as a dac/preamp using a 3.5mm to RCA cable. I know it's possible because it's in the manual and I was thinking about getting either the Schiit Magni or the Topping L30 or L50, something around $150 or less. If someone has the Aune AR5000 and uses amps with similar power, help me, please. I also have the Letshuoer s12 and Hifiman He400se and I would like to know if these amps work for them too, but my main focus is on the AR5000. Thanks.

I’m fairly certain that you experienced the classic placebo effect trying on different amplifiers. On the other hand it would be extremely odd if you didn’t. We all do, when we are not implementing controls.
The truth of the matter is that sound quality is heavily coloured by our perception - how we see things…also when the sound quality remains the same and the only thing that changes is in our heads.
If you were to try all these amps again - though this time volume matched perfectly and hidden from view, I’m sure you wouldn’t be able to tell them apart. Looking for sound quality in amps is like hunting for zebra in Scandinavia ie nonsensical.

What I’m basically getting at is that you already own what you need in the Qudelix. The AR5000 is a very easy drive and with the Qudelix you can even equalise it to your heart’s content.
If you prefer listening via a big amp with a large volume pot (I like the feel of a nice volume pot as well!), I would recommend something with a great low gain option (L30 perchance). Owning the Aune myself I know all too well how little power it needs in order for it to reach painfully loud levels…and a lot of amps on the market will simply be way too powerful for it where you end up fumbling around in low gain at around 7-8 o clock on the volume pot.
Best of luck going forth.
