I have an Elac Discovery Music Server - DS-S101G which comes with a lifetime Roon Essentials control app. Roon Essentials is a stripped down version of Roon, with no monthly subscription fee, no DSP, or EQ.

You connect a hard drive or NAS to the Elac music server and Roon Essentials organizes all of your music files with album artwork, composer, song info, lyrics, etc... A control app on a phone, or tablet worked great to find songs, artists, and play flawlessly. I had about 100 CDs stored on a hard drive in FLAC files. The sound from the Elac discovery unit is great.

Suddenly only 13 albums out of 100 showed up in Roon Essentials. All the rest are missing. All my music files are still on the hard drive, and they are not corrupt.

Roon Essentials also offered full integration with Tidal and Qobuz. Search of albums, artists, and songs on Tidal stopped working. There is no longer access to 100 million songs on TIdal.

After hours of troubleshooting it turns out Roon Labs no longer supports Roon Essentials software or tech support. which was great in the past.

Elac tech support cannot access the Roon Essentials software. So they can't offer tech support. The Elac music server is no longer listed on the Elac website, except in the Outlet section. Manuals, and forum are gone.

All of this is very disappointing. I had a really nice set up. Now it is almost useless.

Come on Roon Labs. Do the right thing and continue to support Roon Essentials.

I'd reset the ELAC unit using the procedure described on p. 9 of the manual. While power is unplugged, disconnect the USB drive. Once the unit is reset, plug the USB drive back in and see if it starts indexing.

If the ELAC continues to lose its memory, you may have better luck connecting your USB drive to your router provided it has this functionality. The manual covers how to point the ELAC to a networked music source.

It's still on their website.
If they are selling it they should be supporting it.

I did reset the Elac device, both with and without the USB drive attached. No help.

What happens when you reattach the USB drive? Nothing?

You might try with a different USB drive; a flash drive with a subset of music would be fine. Sometimes these devices can be picky about what format is used on the drive. FAT32 is probably the safest.

I will try connecting my USB drive to my router. Thank you.

I restated the Elac music server and then plugged in the USB drive. The hard drive light is lit. I hear it spinning. No more files are found.

there is no USB port on my router to attach a USB drive to.

With this ELAC product no longer being supported (and all trace of it seemingly erased from the company website), it is probably going to be more trouble now than it's worth. Any changes made by the online music services to their login/authentication will break it. That said, the playback of local files should still work if it once did so I'm puzzled. Only other thing I can suggest is to confirm that you are running the latest firmware (v.1.7) as it fixed some early issues.

You may want to try the suggestion above to test a second USB drive. There may also be some issue with file permissions that is blocking access to your entire library.

The "missing" files are all FLAC or MP3 with proper tags?

Everything I've read about this device says there's no control surface or user interface located on the server itself. You must control all functions using the Roon Essentials Control App. So if the they aren't supporting the control app any longer it's just going to get worse. Have you tried downloading the full Roon app and see if it will work?

They claimed this comes with a lifetime Roon Essentials control app? What's their idea of lifetime? If they're going to quit supporting the Essentials app then they need to incorporate these devices into their full app for free.

Where can I find the manual? It is not on the Elac website. I found a quick start doc on Elac of Netherlands though.
It's still on their website.

yes they should, ugh. Corporate America for ya

Correct. There are no controls on the server.

You are right, both Elac and Roon should be working together to support this device. But each company just direct the end user to the other company for support. Elac states they don’t own the software, so …..

Just so I understand, you paid $0 extra on the ELAC for Roon Essentials, and there is no monthly fee to Roon for using Roon Essentials?

At this time I am not using the Elac device at all. I use the Tidal app to cast to an old Google Chromecast Audio device via an optical cable and searching streaming music works fine.

my plan is to switch from Tidal to Apple Music, it’s the same monthly price, but I can save my CD music files to Apple Music for free, and then I should basically have the same library and streaming functions as I had with the Elac music server.

I will need to rip the CDs again in Apples lossless files instead of the current FLAC file type.

I checked on the Wayback machine and there's only the setup guide there as well.

But earlier in this thread someone linked to the same guide I think.

Sorry but I don’t know what a tag is or how to add one to a file. I just know all the tracks, albums, and artist data used to work fine and suddenly it did not
