Cheap and simple HT speakers?

My parents recently got a new house near the beach. I'm helping them make a nice and simple "home theater" setup with a projector, which I've always wanted since I was really little. Although this projector has speakers, they're not the best but actually not as bad as you might think.

Check out the photo to see what we're dealing with. I'm looking to achieve a 2 channel setup with a speaker on each side of the screen. Is there anything that's powered (no external amp), sounds good, and isn't more than a few hundred USD for a pair?

Note that little bookshelf speakers might work if I can find stands for cheap or mount them to the wall
