Cambridge Audio CXN 100

CA’s firmware updates are glacially slow - if they come at all …
I’ve owned an 851n for years and am disappointed that it won’t do Tidal hi-res FLAC.
and , it’s NOT a hardware limitation….
personally , I’ll never buy another CA.

Have you missed an update or service pack?
Tidal Hi-Res has been running smoothly on a friend's 851N since a service pack. It was even advertised on Tidal at the time and was also in a Tidal newsletter.

Cambridge has supported the 851N for almost 10 years and releases at least 2 updates a year, a total of 28 so far!
There have already been 2 updates this year, the last on June 6, 2024.
In this respect, I cannot understand your statement and Cambridge is one of the very few manufacturers who still support their devices after such a long time.

I got fed up with CA.
Sold my 851 months ago and replaced it with a Eversolo A6 ..
Got very close to what I paid for it.

Couldn’t be happier …

i Would not upgrade only for the display

Nice rig you have put together
Upgrade would be relatively inexpensive for me (around $500) do you think still it's not worth it? I really like to see the album art and those new meters.

So, generally speaking will I be seeing any sonic difference using optical? If it's par with my NODE (with optical) I'm happy.

Also, can I am wondering if I can have preset (I.e. album, playlist) and assign it or number 1-9 on the remote.

To pay that much for a network streamer, I would need it to have an HDMI video output and graphical user interface. Though not nearly as well curated or integrated as a network streamer, I greatly prefer a PC-based solution since I can view it on a TV/monitor.

How reliable is their app nowadays? The bad ratings it has on the iOS store as well as some other comments online kept me from buying the predecessor, but you lot seem to like it?

I’ve always liked the look of this one (although I am quite sold on the idea of a touchscreen *in that other device* now).

I currently use NODE (Gen 3) and I'm interested in CX100 only for its display. I'm wondering if moving from NODE (optical output) to CX100 (optical) [I am using RME AD1 DAC] would result in any change in sound quality and in what way?
Unfortunately, no.
