(Audiophile) americana and country music? Who likes it? Recommendations?

Absolutely astounded that James McMurtry has not been mentioned yet.

McMurtry yes, missing from this post. my favorite

I coulda sworn I mentioned McMurtry. Huh.

I’m writing this during intermission at a Nickel Creek show…

My bad, should have spotted that.

I tried a search for Tami Neilson. She is listed as a County & Soul singer/songwriter. Kingmaker was released in 2022. Sassafrass! 2018.
Canadian born, but a New Zealand transplant. You will need to turn down the BASS. It's actually mixed to play LOUD and what may sound
like distortion at lower levels 65-75db, sounds amazingly good when you turn it up to 90+. If you like Linda Ronstadt (early or late) you'll
probably like Mrs Neilson. 47 years old.

I found her by watching Brokenwood Mysteries in 2014. The lead investigator (Neil Rea) has a car that was made the year he was born.
He listens to country western on cassette. LOL

I was dispatched to Northland for over a month working on a few drill rigs. I though the wind blew when Santa Anna was on the warpath.
That is a windy place but some of the best fresh catch around. They do a Hangi that has some great eating. We had lamb.
I cleaned my plate 2 or 3 times. One of the few times I gained weight vs lost weight. They have a lot of proper county folks there and of
course Manuka Honey. I heard they had Kiwis too. LOL

Regards

Album: Cedar City Sweetheart.

You tube has the whole album...

Hope you like it!

She performed at the Edmonton Folk Festival last August. Her sound is throwback country - a bit like Patsy Cline. I really enjoyed her performance.

Apologies. I forgot I had posted on this thread, and am just now following up. Every year in December, an informal panel of family and friends make up a year end list of Americana and indie-folk performances, based on youtube videos.
Here was our list for 2023.
I want to point out this is not monetized in any way ... purely for fun. Of course, the artists make a bit if you watch their performance video.
Artists on the 2023 list include:
MEAU & Nick Schilder, Ed Sheeran, James Blunt, SYML, AJ Lee, JP Saxe, Alison Brown, Andy Shauf, Sierra Hull, Twisted Pine, Halley Neal, Sammy Rae & The Friends, RAYE, Darlingside, Tim Baker, Margo Price, Noah Gundersen, Gregory Porter, Lizzy McAlpine, Hania Rani, Hollow Coves, corook, Billie Eilish, Tiny Habits, Jacob Collier, Paper Kites, Astrid S, Lawrence, Sam Fischer, Tom Rosenthal, Gregory Alan Isakov, Hannah Georgas, Passenger, Olivia Barton, Zaz, Phoebe Bridgers, Bear's Den, Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway, Martyn Joseph, Noah Kahan, Tom Odell, Cat Burns, Bastille, Noah Gundersen, Arcadian Wild

I also made up a list of mainly country/ bluegrass performances -
This overlaps a bit with the indie-folk list, but includes a number of additional tracks not on the broader list.

Sweet Relief Benefit Concert in Honor of Joan Baez, February 8, Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco.

Linda Ronstadt, Rosanne Cash, Joan Baez, Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris & Bonnie Raitt. Floor: Margo Price & Jackson Browne.

An Americana Hall of Fame here. I've seen most of these performers live at one time or another. In the 1970s, Jackson Browne's songs resonated most strongly with me. He seemed to always be expressing where I was at various points in my life. It's encouraging that many of the songs he wrote still have currency all these years later. My kids are now approaching middle age, and 'For a Dancer' has become a family theme song, over the years.

(Over at gesprek.net we have added our 2024 indie-folk video performance list and our bluegrass list. Indie-folk overlaps with Americana quite a bit. And if you want a very long list of indie-folk list of recent release, to put on shuffle, here's our 2024 year end list of 400 approx songs on spotify:
Or on youtube music:

His last one, "The Horses and the Hounds," is a feast of great songs, great playing (David Grissom's superb guitar work dominates), and excellent recorded sound. "Ft. Walton Wake-Up Call" is a hoot -- I LOL every time he sings,"I can't find my glasses!"

I spent a great deal of covid attending his twice-weekly living-room livestreams. The one great benefit of the pandemic! (Also saw both his Oslo concerts back in February 2017, the only time he has visited Norway).
