Audeze Maxwell

I found a Reddit post where someone suggested turning the volume down to the minimum then turn on and off the volume limiter in the Audeze app and then turn up the volume. People in the thread posted they had success with this.

What streaming app ? Disable volume levelling .
The Maxwells are louder when using the the dongle. That is obiously by design.
But they are really decently loud even when using BT.

Check for your player!
Try different app on your phone. For example Poweramp.
Is BT max volume enabled ect. (see app settings)
Checking for limitatoins by the device itself are of course relevant in the first place.
Even sidetone does lower the max volume for me.

What EQ settings are people using? Be it via the app or separate PEQ?

Usually I EQ based on Amir or Oratory's measurments. Most of the Maxwell Squiglink measurements look a bit dodgy.

Standard audeze setting in the app then this

I use the immersive preset

Bought one. The sound is really great. Mostly I choose the standard Audeze preset, but if a little more spice is needed, the Immersive preset does its job well. The Competitive and Footsteps presets aren't suitable for music.

I attached the dongle to the USB out of the Wiim amp. Works great with a small drawback: there are two volume dials (amp & headphone). I strictly advice against setting the Wiim amp to 100 %. If you switch off the headset, the amp changes to the speaker out while retaining the 100% setting. The result isn't funny. So it's better to set the Maxwell to full volume and use the volume control of the Wiim app.

The wired connection with USB works fine with a pc, halfway decent with iOS devices (end volume is loud enough, but only the 80-100% range of the volume control is usable, everything below is way to quiet. Using bluetooth, the usable volume control range is between 40 and 100%. Don't know if there's a fix for it.

Wired use with the Wiim amp USB out produces distortion at low volumes.

Wearing comfort is ok for me despite the quite hefty weight.

I'm a bit concerned about durability issues. There is a lot to read about the fragility of planar drivers. I understood that it's not recommended to press the earcups against the ears since the pressure of the air can damage the diaphragm. I have a certain degree of clumsiness, so from time to time things get dropped. Can a single drop kill the drivers? How serious are those issues? I'm still within the return window.

Reports of broken headbands led to my decision to return the maxwell. It seems to be a fundamental design flaw that leads to a predetermined breaking point sooner or later. The best sound is worth nothing when the set disintegrates within a few months. I stay with my trusty old wired 1770 pro, which needs some EQ but probably outlasts me.

I managed to drop my phone with the Maxwell dongle connected and it broke the connector.
Let that be a lesson to everyone!

With a bit of luck audeze might replace for little (unlikely I know). Don't think we have any audeze reps here but I'm sure reaching out to cust services will clarify

Least you can run a USB c to c cable between the 2 in the meantime or just BT

Now that I have had mine for a while I have to say that the only complaints I have are that they're quite heavy. A bit too heavy for me. I'd love a much lighter refresh. Second and final complaint is that battery time is nowhere near 80 hours for me!

Look into a few options on upgrading the headband. There is a Carpa option https://capraaudio.com/ (and some clones on etsy if you live elsewhere) as well as the ZMF pilot pad https://shop.zmfheadphones.com/products/pilot-pad
Those are what have come up when I was researching.
