Hi everyone,

I'm looking to add an extra headphone output to my setup and would love your recommendations.

I'm using a MOTU UltraLite AVB audio interface and am quite satisfied with its headphone output. It easily drives my Beyerdynamic DT150 and DT880 Pro (both 250 ohms) headphones to very high levels. Clean and transparent, ideal for my analytical use.

The UltraLite has 8x 1/4" TRS line outs (balanced) and an optical ADAT/TOSLink out (switchable). If I go optical out, I assume I'd also need a DAC, so a line out connection is preferable to keep things simple, right?

I'm looking for a good, clean, and powerful amp that can drive any of my headphones, connecting from the MOTU. My budget is around $100~150.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi UltraL,
You only have high impedance headphone therefore it can be suggested that you go torwards tube amp,to get that soft clipping which will make them sound more musical and open,it's really something. As of the model at that cost the xDuoo MH-02 has the best specs from what i know, but no one tested it,so as me,i have an FX-audio tube 02 pro, which seems less refined at first sight.Mine is 850mW(32ohms),here it's 1300mW(32ohm),and i drive the hd 600(300ohms/97db/V) with it,it's loud and smooth.
As you are trying to use your AVR with it,it might be interesting to indeed use a line out ,as you might not get the same output quality otherwise.Try to search into review index>Audio Electronics section>and search "Headphone amp",there's price aside of names,to see if one suits your price range and needs.

You can't go wrong with a Topping L50 or Drop HO150x. They're both terrific and the same power on all connectors. The L50 uses 1/4 inch and the H0150x uses XLR.
