A friend of mine, upon learning that I actually like acid / psychedelic jazz (as well as traditional) stuff from the likes of Mahavishu Orchestra, Weather Report, late Sun Ra, and post Bitches Brew Miles Davis, said I should explore Krautrock.

So...where to start? What are the bands and albums I should start with?

Vinyl or digital edition preferences?

Color me odd, but I try to do my best to avoid discussions about format preference which, like beauty, is in the eyes/ears/soul of the beholder. I'll listen to prog rock (including Krautrock) any way I can. Car stereo, iphone, you name it. For me it's only about the music.

As an aside, love all those Tangerine Dream albums, tho' I'd not put them in the Krautrock genre... more progressive electronic.
