What is it? Now you got me curious. This Les Premices I used is roughly 65$ a bottle in my shop. Henriot is around 60$ and Rothschild is at 65.
My go-to bottle was the VP, which for years I paid about US$70 and could get by the case. Same wine is now $150+ and tightly allocated.

My late wife used to measure costs in units of Cedric Bouchards. "Well, we could get a new TV, but that will cost five Bouchards."
Sounds like she was an amazing lady!

Absolutely, and really knew her wine. She and I visited Bouchard with Jan Didden (Tech Editor of AudioXpress) and Morgan Jones (Valve Amplifiers), and Cedric opened a bottle of every wine he'd ever made. She grabbed a bottle of his 2002 and disappeared with it.

That is way too much. It's a hundred bucks at my place.

Still... Take a bottle of Egly-Ouriet Les Vignes de Vrigny Premier Cru Brut and you'll see you can do without the VP. It's 70$ at my place. It's some crazy stuff!! It's Blanc de Noirs made from 100% Meunier. A rarity and a beautiful champagne.

:D

In fact, I wanted to recommend you to look elsewhere for your bubbly joy. Nothing but respect here for the VP, but try Vrigny Premier Cru. It's stunning.
I basically don't buy Egly any more. Moved on to being overcharged for Bouchard and Ulysse Collin. I am used to big numbers for Krug/Dom/Comtes. But where "Growers" have gone in the US is really something.

I'm also a big fan of Collin. Curious if you tried Jacques Lassaigne? Since our tastes in Champagne seem to be similar.

The local Dr Frank Blanc de Blancs is my house sparkling wine these days, but there's a few odd zero dosage Champagnes rolling around in my cellar.

No, I have not tried those. But you can bet that I will! I will take a tip like that from a fellow wine lover over a "pro critic" 7 days a week.

Numbers or not, I always have great respect for Krug. I try not to buy or avoid buying bc of the brand. I know it's famous and you won't make the room go silent by mentioning Krug, but it's simply a great Champagne.
I agree , I have been collecting Krug for years. But it’s been expensive for years!! That’s what I meant by being used to big numbers for Krug. The upstarts, however…..

In my parts of the world a classic NV Krug goes for 220$ approx. BTW, the most expensive wines I've tasted in my life so far were Clos D'Ambonnay and Clos du Mesnil. I didn't pay of course. D'Ambonnay goes for 2300$. But I was lucky enough to attend one masterclass on Champagne where I got the chance.

When the chance arises, don't mind where you are, what you're doing, are you in the mood... :D

2011 really wasn't one of the better vintages in Bordeaux, but it wasn't bad. The wine is very nice. Elegant and complex on the nose at the same time. On the palate, I'd guess tannins were slightly green at the time the grapes were picked, but after 11 years, you can barely notice that. The smoothness is what overwhelms you.

From Saturday. Hiyu Moon Dog is nuts. Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, 90 days on the skins, 5 years in 1300L cask. People say Pinot (/Burgundy) and Nebbiolo (/Piedmont) are sympatico, but a Pinot that actually tastes like Barbaresco? Wild. Wine you drink slowly over the night and just have to keep talking about. Actually delicious too.

The BDX was very elegant.
