Hi,

After reading some threads it seems there is a real risk of buying something that is poorly soldered, wired, grounding off etc, so I was wondering if anyone can tell me if these look ok?

Seller wants $1800 and I think it's worth it for Class AB, great measurements, and large power output for my Magnepan 1.7i that will be arriving in the coming weeks.

Thank you,
Tom.

PS: For parts the seller said this: "Connex electronic custom ordered SMPS800RE +-36volt 800W continuous and 1000W peak power supply" Is that good, decent, or bad?

Have you checked around to see what options are available for that kinda money? Perhaps surfing the USAudioMart.com might come up with something more appropriate. I checked the first page and found some great stuff. I am sure there are many more in there.

Thank you, I will look at the measurements for them to see how they compare. I want the lowest THD I can get, the Benchmark amp might be just that.

Sometimes I feel like I should get over myself and get a Hypex NC400 or NC500 and call it a day lol.

For a new ambitious power amplifier it is now Benchmark, Hypex or Purify, depending on budget and power requirements. They are also frugal with electricity.

The Benchmark is a great amp. Amazing specs and apparently fantastic construction.

What differences is there between say NC400 and Purify 400?

Price seems kinda steep, since it's around $1500 to build that... of course Modulus-686 are not available at the moment, so probably the reason for price gouging. ;)

Have ASR tested the modulus amps ? Are not they also quite good performance and very low distorsion . I know that nothing beats the benchmark , but given power requiremt etc thd is not always the deciding factor , not clipping with ineffiecient speakers is more important.

I'm not a expert on the NC400 or the Purify stuff. But there are peeps here that are. Somebody will chime in. :D The NC 400 is mentioned in the Benchmark review here at ASR. It is measured against the Benchmark and the Benchmark was better. If you read down to the power test you will see them graphed out.

Well, the Purifi is a better price match to the Benchmark.

I am the seller of the 686 amplifier.

If you are interested in a NCore NC400 amplifier I also have one of those for sale. $1000 ( Built by James Romeyn )

It should do much better than the one tested here since it has the 1200watt power supply vs the 600watt power supply version Amir tested.
