OK, I didn't see this one coming. I just got an email from Tidal announcing that my subscription is going down to $10.99 plus tax in April.

Here's the email -
On your first billing date on or after April 10, 2024, you’ll now pay just $10.99 (plus applicable sales tax)/month for all the same features you currently use on a TIDAL Individual plan.
This is because we’re making it easier for everyone to enjoy best-in-class sound quality by combining our HiFi and HiFi Plus tiers into a single subscription tier called TIDAL.
You will see these changes reflected on your Subscription page at account.tidal.com on your first billing date on or after April 10, 2024. Thanks for choosing to be a TIDAL subscriber.

It sounds like they are finally reacting to the lower price from Amazon and Apple. I hope this is the start of a push for a higher market share in 2024.

I joined up. Been having a lot of issues with Qobuz lately. Any tips for setting up on Roon to maximize the audio via Roon? Lots choices pertaining to MQA and such I don't understand. Also choices like DSD -> PCM conversions and such.

Advised set up?

I don't know about Roon but MQA is pretty-much dead or dying. It was always questionable because it alters the "data", which may improve or possibly degrade the sound, or possibly make little or no difference. Generally, you don't want anything altering the signal/sound unless YOU decide to make a specific-intentional change like boosting the bass, etc.

Not all DACs support DSD so you might have to convert to PCM. As long as you stay at "CD quality" or better you shouldn't hear any difference, but "best practice" is to avoid any unnecessary conversions.

If you're on a computer, the drivers will usually make any necessary conversions (without telling you), so for example, you can play a high-resolution file on any-old 16-bit soundcard just as you can print a high-resolution photo on a low-resolution printer.

That's right, however it's about $5 incl. tax here, music streaming is almost free at this point and I'm not sure I'm happy about that, as I work in this industry

I switched over to Tidal from Spotify a month or so ago and am loving the sound quality, although some of the files of the same songs sound better than others and there doesn't seem to be an way to know why or which are "better".

I'm starting to lose patience with Spotify and I'm thinking about jumping to Tidal. Spotify is paying artists less, charging users more, and still can't turn a profit, apparently. And they simply cannot understand that I don't want to listen to Joe Rogan and I never will.

Could put a long rant here, but I have a practical question instead. Is there an effective way to import Spotify playlists to Tidal? I have put some effort into my playlists and that's probably the only thing keeping me on there at this point.

When I try different music streaming services, their apps etc. I usually like to sync my playlists first.
Unfortunately free options for syncing typically don't work well or even at all IME, usually there is always some catch or it's abandoned voluntary project etc. YMMV of course.
I had very good experience with Soundiiz.
It's 4.5 EUR per month, however if you're about one-time sync, you can of course cancel the sub immediately and use it just for one month.
No hassles, periodic or one time syncs, lots of functionality with sane UI, works well with many services (Spotify, Tidal, YouTube Music, Amazon, Apple...). Usually I've been able to sync more than 95% of quite extensive library (Albums, Artists, Playlists). That seems granted, but isn't always the case, as matching among services isn't always so straightforward.
I'm currently unsubscribed from there, or more precisely, I have just free tier of it, which has limits, but in case of necessary syncs, I'm happily going to pay it again.

Thanks, I think I actually used this when I switched from YouTube Music (I was a holdover from Google Play Music, RIP) to Spotify. Good to know it still works well.

You're welcome a good luck with possible migration.

Personally I'm still jumping between Spotify and Tidal tough. Tidal has lossless option, if you're after that, and for example their app surprisingly works much better on my ancient phone (1st gen iPhone SE). OTOH I have Spotify family plan, which I can't easily cancel, unless going to be crucified ;) Spotify Connect works also much better with its continous playback across different devices. Finally there's one other aspect, Spotify is ever popular service worldwide, so certain local content isn't at Tidal. I see, it's not necessarily issue in U.S. The other thing is also comfortable access to ton of local podcasts, not so big problem for iOS as most of them is also in Apple Podcast app. On Android it's worse, as their Google Podcast being discontinued, so podcasts requires 3rd party apps with either RSS links (PITA) or possibly some another subscription for better, updated app with good directory.
So although I'm more and more fed up with Daniel Ek's and his latest "just a content" ridiculous stance for example, I'm still with them.
