I don’t get this, I used to get 24/192 from MacBook Pro late 2013 with toslink through the headphone jack but not anymore. I have the option to choose 24/192 but when I start playing it jumps down to 24/96.
I use Roon from the Mac.
Is the MacBook not supporting it any longer??

It depends on the settings in the audio player you use to play music.
I use Audirvana player on Mac Mini Late 2012 and I can also play DSD256 files.
Of course, this requires an appropriate DAC that supports that resolution.

I also have Audirvana and it plays 24/192 perfectly but in Roon I don’t get any sound even though it’s settings I set to 24/192 and the signal path also shows that all is ok. Very strange..

Do you have an external DAC or do you listen directly from a Mac?
If this is the latter, then it is a limitation that has an internal DAC in a Mac.

It looks like my Onkyo network receivers coaxial and optical inputs only support up to 24/96 but with ethernet it supports 32/384.

Have you set "Exclusive mode" on the device setup in Roon? If so, you should never have to use the MIDI/Ljudenehter settings.
(Macbook Air M1 2020/Apple USB-C to USB-A dongle/SMSL SU-8)

With Roon, I was not able to get Exclusive Mode to work; output was always at the sytem MIDI settings regardless of file format.

With Audirvana, Exclusive mode does send the appropriate encoding to the DAC, but it doesn't actually lock out other sounds: it sends them to the laptop speakers. That's useful, I guess.

If you're willing to try Audirvana, you may be able to identify if it is a Roon issue or something else. (I opened a ticket with Roon for this issue.)

Did you make any changes to your system between this working and not working?
