Epic Road Trips

IMG_0226.jpg

Since this is a music oriented forum: This string quartet played during a wine festival in Breck. It was popular music arranged for strings. The instruments were amplified, and a bit too loud. For $75 plus the usual annoying processing fee one could line up to drink all the premium wine they wanted. The area was open regardless of whether one had bought the tasting package.

The road trip portion of our vacation has effectively ended as we are back in Jackson for the duration. That said, we did drive up to Teton National Park today to hike to and around Taggart Lake (el. 6903). A nice hike and great views of the Tetons over the lake.

Reading -er, scanning- these posts, and the photo's, are like digging up memories, which I'm, it must be said, too good at. America's a beautiful country, much maligned by too many, tall trees catch wind...policy might be better, but who's ever been perfect?

Nowadays going to America has become too difficult for me, health and "Homeland Security" contribute to my present status as armchair tourist. So I read Tony Hillerman detective stories, some Native American history and, when I can't sleep at night turn on Hopi or a Socorro N.M. country music station on internet radio... and wear beautiful Zuñi or Navajo turquoise and silver. And dreaming to music...(mostly not C&W, Rameau and Ysaÿe fine with me, Benjamin Franklin a star at Versailles parties and Thomas Jefferson bought all the best wine!)

New Mexico upwards all the way to the Canadian Rockies...magic! And nowadays they even make decent wine near Calgary...

Slight correction, that's the Rio Grande, the specific section is the Taos Box. Very nice view, quite a long way down!
I have since found the spot is called the Taos Gorge on the map I saw at least.

Yes. That's the mighty Rio Grande!
It's an epic white water run in the spring.
Glad you traveled though, it is nice country. Seems you had a good time!

@GD Fan Thank you. There are a few more of these in the Wild Places thread. I'm just getting around to editing these after 7 months.

Almost 2K Miles in one weekend, leaving at friday afternoon in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Viña del Mar, in Chile. Just to check the Pacific, some shopping in Santiago (At that time the exchange rate was good) and come back on Monday. Best memories with friends in late 20s.

Ho fatto questo drive circa 15 anni fa:
Congrats on the Boxster!!

I did maybe 1/3 of your trip from Melbourne to Kangaroo Island, then Adelaide, by car, then plane to Sydney. Beautiful places, beautiful memories!! I will probably return to Sydney at the end of the year, and I might go towards Brisbane... we'll decide....

Drove this bike over 1,000 miles from Hà Nội to Nha Trang in 2019. The bike is 150cc, big by Vietnamese standards. I stopped at most of the cities along the way, and one very rural spot with a spider bigger than the bike.

Met another American at a hotel in Hướng Hóa where I was staying for the night. He was also driving a bike across the country, but going the opposite direction. He was recovering from an illness so bad the hotel staff had to keep him alive the previous week. You would not believe the stories this guy had. That's his bike with the green gas tank. You'd understand why he wrote that on the tank if you met him. Even our one night out for a few beers was... eventful.

The final destination, Nha Trang, is the best city in the world, in my opinion. Made a lot of friends there. Can get a tad hot tho

You @Ron Texas seem to really enjoy 4 wheeling in your cool Jeep 4x4 to some of the most scenic and cool locations possible in North America. I appreciate your lovely pics and enjoy seeing you post them. I don't know what kind of camera/lenses/filters you use but I do know that my $800, 27" MSI monitor simply pops with vivid colors whenever your images are viewed. It's a real nice break from the monotony etc. Have you ever been to the West Slopes of Alberta and into the far East of British Columbia to see the majesty of the very young mountains there? If you ever come up this way you must go there. It's breath taking like your images are but there are more young mountains.

@Doodski this particular route is unpaved but maintained well enough that most cars may traverse it. I shoot with a Nikon D850 and various Nikon lenses. I have been to Alberta, but not recently.

Nikon D850
I googled it. I love the swing out LCD display. I have had that feature on all my Canon point and shoot versions. My present Canon has it but the lens seems not as good as the other Canons that I owned. It seems slightly blurry, not tack sharp like Canons I had before and the colors are off somehow in ways difficult to describe. Generally it seem like a bad model but has the 35x optical zoom which I never use anyway now. I would never ever buy this sort of camera again. If I may ask you because I suspect you are a bit of a knowledgeable expert on cameras. What basic camera would you recommend for me to use when I am not using my Samsung Galaxy S23 cel tel for snapping images? The cel tel is OK but it does not have the ergonomics and abilities of a traditional layout camera. How much moola do I need to spend and what model would you purchase with maybe a ~3x zoom etc and really tack sharp with vivid colors etc? An all around versatile lens sorta point and shoot camera. The battery type does not matter to me anymore. Otherwise I think you have had that nice Jeep for years now. How is turning out for you? Is it easy to 4x4 with it etc? I drove a Jeep Gladiator pickup for awhile and it was a great 4x4. Soooper dooper low gearing.
