dCS threatens with a 7-figure lawsuit over a review

Amir assisted Cameron in his video rebuttal, which is great. I hope that breach can be repaired because I think Cameron is an honest person and invaluable to the community, even if he crossed a couple lines in the past.

MOD EDIT: this matter was resolved by dCS letting go a responsible company employee and mending relationship with Cameron.

Well that’s DCS removed from my list, which is a moot point as everything DCS sells is more than my complete system so I’d need to upgrade everything, phew….that saved me a fortune I don’t have nor want/need to spend.

Good on headphones.com and Cameron for standing their ground and to Amir for providing feedback, well done to all.

It seems these unexceptional hifi companies don’t like it up’em.

As for dCS, like Tekton, they are cancelling themselves...

It is nice that Amir assists here, as one must confront this behavior from manufacturers, but I still don’t think that Cameron is a honest person, or at least he is deluding himself with all the supposed differences he hears and in the end it is just a smidgeon of almost inaudible difference above 20kHz.

Completely agree just another flimflam merchant but with an AP.
Perhaps he should try the simple truth.

Shame on DcS. I guess if you deal in imaginary qualities, you'll sue over your version of those imaginary qualities.
 
At one time dCS was industry leading for ADCs. Too bad they now represent the more repellent aspects of high-end audio.
 
Times are tough for DAC and ADC manufacturers...
But not enough tough for some dCS employees : the boss of the company should severely remonstrates it subordinates, who took such a clumsy and counterproductive initiative, so damaging to the reputation of the brand...

And reach out to the reviewer in the same spirit T+A and Meitner did, as is mentioned at the end of the above video.

And if the boss cannot do that or don't understand why he/she should do that, well, the company shareholders should find a new, more clever, boss.

UK law is interesting, and the company are foolish if they pursue this since LTT stepped in. DCS could well cancel themselves in the world of social media. It's more than just one news cycle on this, as the backing has been assured from Linus Sebastian. Both parties are UK domiciled it would appear so US courts won't touch it I'd wager.

If they're reading this, it won't go down well on Monday morning. I can see it being settled amicably, pronto, and the plonker who initiated it, put on gardening leave.

Or, they're thick as pigshit and keep going. Which will likely be terminal for them and employees, sadly.

One outcome is positive, the rest will end dCS.

I don't see that it will proceed as I don't see that they have a case. The onus is on them to demonstrate that there has been substantial damage to their reputation.

It's a bluff and they'll quietly drop it. Is my prediction.
 
It is clear that many in the industry don't know much about PR and don't think these actions through. They let emotions get in the way of making the right decision for the company.

Even the process is wrong. If you are going to reach out to a reviewer to complain, that very first contact needs to articulate the issues. Seems like their lawyer knew to do this and append their issues to his letter. But that should have been done by the VP of sales and marketing.

Hopefully we wake up tomorrow to a proper resolution of this affair.
 
When Cameron reached out to me on this, I offered to promote his response on ASR. So just promoted to home page.
As a (sorta) representative of HP.com, I want to say: thank you for that, and for you contribution to the response. We have some differences between us, but I'm really glad that we could come together as a community against this kind of behavior.
 
UK law is interesting,
Back in my RFT days, I worked in biotechnology. We were all still learning as we went, so there were lots of unexpected happenings even with the "routine" manufacture of cell-derived recombinant protein therapeutics. I had a boss* who would, of course, ask me how our work was going on these little pop-up crises. The answer was usually complicated but interesting, so I'd say, Well, Hubie, it's interesting... I'd never get too far past that because he would invariably cut me off by saying, evenly but pointedly: Mark. We don't need 'interesting' :)

There were usually millions, and sometimes many millions of dollars of product hanging in the balance. So, yeah, Hubie, I see what you're getting at.
