Constant Beamwidth Transducer (CBT) Speakers

I would want the midrange to go down to 80-100 Hz. I will check out Parts Express. One more question, a while back I read that someone had figured out a wiring scheme that would give the correct driver shading without needing any resistors. Any idea where that information is.

Do you think you could get improved performance if you were to use a series of dual concentric drivers like that used in the KEF LS50/LS60?
As Hayabusa mentioned, space between drivers would be too large for it to work well. It's not a coincidence that we use quite small top drivers in our design. However, they can still be crossed quite low.

Driver spacing is a key issue, so that introduces some interesting questions about how much lobing can be tolerated.

Too bad they stopped selling it.

yeah, they need to rethink their DIY options, they currently have one interesting speaker that seemed to not be favored review wise. The rest are boring run of the mill bookshelves, the cnote is good though.

PE seems to moving a bit away from DIY and lean more into oem services and their own finished branded products.

Since replacing the miniDSP openDRC-DA8 with the miniDSP Flex 8 and my amplifier with one that has a simple linear power supply the CBT36K kits sound much better. Since the Flex 8 has a Dirac Live license implementing that will be the next step.

Here is my updated system. I use the PartsExpress CBT36K for my basement home theater. The subwoofers are also from PartsExpress. The amps are a Emotiva BasX A4 for the CBT36K and a Crown XLS 1502 for the subwoofers (the PartsExpress Chinese plate amplifiers died on me). The dsp/crossover is now a miniDSP Flex 8 using the optical input. This system sounds very good now though not as good as the LX521.4 system I have upstairs. I have a Dirac Live license for the Flex 8 and I will eventually implement that and see what happens. Both Keele and Linkwitz thought that it is very important to maintain a frequency independent acoustical antenna radiation pattern and I totally agree with them. I wonder how the really expensive highend speakers such as the Wilsons or the Magicos due with regard to this? I also wonder if there is any reason for passive crossovers anymore?

I own a pair of CBT24, some of my best listening sessions I experienced happened listening to them. They do a lot of things very well, but the shortcomings kept me from being totally satisfied. The model you have probably addresses those issues.

They are excellent for a very dynamic sound and imaging is quite good. The highs aren’t very good and sometimes they sounded forward or too much midrange energy compared to the highs and mid bass. I used 15 inch subs for the bass.
