My old Lelit has been feeling poorly of late. I'm unable to revive it this morning. Overdue for a visit to the doctor. The photos are helping my mood a little. I'm having a cup of tea.

Oh, very sorry to hear. I hope you can get it back soon.

I live in what is considered by many the capital city of coffee all around the world (we have also a sign when you enter the city that says so) and I always like my cup of espresso, Illy’s red blend. Probably the best coffe in the world (?), that makes me really spoilt and when I go abroad it’s always difficult to find a good cup for me.

What’s really good about Illy apart from the blend is that they hired inspectors to go every once in a while randomly in all the bars that have Illy coffee to see if they are brewing it correctly. That gives you assurance of a quality brew wherever you go if you see a Illy logo, very nice :)

Symptoms?

Initially the refill alarm would stay on (after refilling) which responded well to jiggling the tank. But no longer, I expect the alarm is doing double duty for another fault. Now there's a leak. Another one of those blue plastic pipe connectors may have failed, I should replace them all with brass. Or it could be something else ... while Mara is one of the smaller E61 machines around, they are still heavy things to go to the shops with.

Meanwhile, I dug out the French press. Better than tea. :)

nothing to be sorry about, I don’t even work there.. And what do you like instead? Now you made me curious :D

I’ve been drinking Rave coffee : Strong AF blend for the past few months, lovely stuff with a massive crema in the cup, a 1kg bag of beans get delivered every 21 days which allows approx 5 days to leave it to degass before use, a 1kg bag wil last me near enough a month at my consumption of a double double shot cappuccino in the morning, a single espresso with 30ml of hot water in the afternoon and my mum or mate usually get through another 3 or 4 double shots a week.

Been drinking rave coffee blends for the previous few years and prior to above blend I was drinking Rave coffee signature blend #1.

My wild-ass guess would be the leak is causing electrical problems, relay maybe. I replaced my SS relay twice thinking it was faulty when the root cause was an intermittent leak on the heating element gasket that was shorting the relay.

Yes, I've come to a similar conclusion. I was away for a couple of days and the machine started up ok, I think it had simply dried out. A temporary respite.

I tried Illy and wasn't overly impressed.

If you like Italian style espresso, and without going down the rabbit hole of the infinite choice offered by specialist roasters, try Lavazza.

When I tried them, I made a list and gave them a score:

By the way I am going to Turin this week-end, Lavazza has also a fancy restaurant there.. A typical torinese treat is espresso with chocolate and whipped cream (“Bicerin”), can’t wait to try it, I’m sure it’s going to be delicious :D

edit: forgot to mention, Lavazza is a turinese industry

I like the Lavazza Rossa, beans are a bit less expensive than the Super Crema yet still produces a nice crema. I'm no coffee gourmet, normally do a galão or two in the morning because it's what I used to drink when I lived in Europe.

I love reading threads like these and seeing regional variations that I haven't heard of.
