BBC Research Department loudspeaker development

Thanks for the post I have been looking for these , specifically on the G.E.C 1852 tweeter. Part of the EMI DLS-1...as seen behind rings in my pic. These are amazing , at 60 years old and going strong.

Some of the factors in loudspeaker design have been dealt with in the technical press many times but there are others which have received comparatively little attention, at any rate quantitatively. In this article it is proposed to deal with a few of the latter and to add some subjective data which is new.

This piece ends with a sobering reflection from the author:

The views expressed here are based on experience within the BBC.
Some of the conclusions are drawn from limited evidence and not all engineers within the BBC would necessarily agree with all of them.
In spite of all that has been said, in the final decision. a good loudspeaker remains a matter of personal choice.
However, experiment and analysis help us to make this choice.
