On January 29, Amazon started showing ads to Prime Video subscribers in the US unless they pay an additional $2.99 per month. But this wasn't the only change to the service. Those who don't pay up also lose features; their accounts no longer support Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos.

So Amazon wants an xtra three dollars a month to get rid of advertisements? Typical.

Pay as you go seems to be the way, nowadays. Like Windows. Windows used to be an OS for your PC. Other than occasionally crashing it mostly stayed out of your way. They finally got that part of it fixed, but then turned it into an advertising platform for MS (and 'affiliates') to sell monthly subs.

Annoy you to death for dollars. What's not to love about that?
