Could a step-down/up transformer be put in front of a power amplifier without any effect to the sound quality vs. without a transformer, assuming the transformer can handle the wattage demanded by the amplifier?

An example 1800W transformer that I'm considering: https://www.amazon.com/120V-100V-Converter-appliances-Certified]/dp/B09WGRFTQ6/ref=asc_df_B07L57MTF6/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693128203619&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1229008932488199097&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9061104&hvtargid=pla-1949889769170&mcid=910a8c7e49d039ca9673e662109b1cce&gad_source=1&th=1

Yes, but I'm pretty sure that's not just a transformer. I think it's a "voltage converter" with some active circuitry and it MIGHT generate some noise that might get into the amplifier.

There are transformers somewhere between the power plant and your home, and every amplifier has a transformer inside.

An 1800W transformer would be larger, heavy and expensive.

Should work. Description says it's got a toroidal transformer in it so it shouldn't be too noisy. It's Amazon, if you have problems return it.

You can see toroid on pictures. For the purpose you don't need 1.8kW core. 300W can be enough in autotransformer configuration (or so I guess, don't know exact math).
