Imagine if they were active
Setup would be much cleaner with just the speakers + a streamer .
But most hi end brands would never make active speakers (not sure why)
They technically are active (or half active). And the setup doesn’t need to look as complicated as the picture.

You could just get a Storm Audio Processor and do crossover settings digitally and a get capable 4 channel amp.
Easy two box solution.

Geneled 8381a are fully active and still require 4 boxes for the amps alone

Found a sound demo of that setup and the description says:

Streaming DAC: CH Precision C1
Master Clock: CH Precision T1
External Power: CH Precision X1
Pre-Amplifier: CH Precision L10
Power-Amplifier: CH Precision M10
Thanks.

The M9 have an active crossover between the large bass driver and the other drivers.
The other drivers are crossed over with passive components.

To me, 'active' means that the crossover is a powered component that comes before the amplification while passive comes after amplification and has passive components like capacitors, resistors and inductors.
This has nothing to do with amps being build into the speakers (or external amps that are specific to those speakers). Those kind of speakers would be called 'powered' speakers.

Most studio monitors are both powered and active but there also exists powered speakers that are passive.

The magicos would be considered active but not powered.
And I would consider the Genelec 8381 as active and powered because they come with specific power amps even though they're not build into the speakers.

Being so concerned about bass extension in your main speakers is like being concerned if your rifle can shoot a target at 1 mile while you've never shoot brfore. The room will mess your bass anyway, embrace subwoofers and DSP or suffer mediocre bass.

Anyway looking at the data Magico M9 has much less distortion in bass and lower midrange than D&D but at the same time it's also impressive that it's tweeter keeps parity with D&D despite not having a waveguide.

The 5th Magico M9(#09,10) is arrived at South Korea.
They are so huge(over 2M!!) and heavy(1000 Pound, 454Kg).
I joined to set to measure because they are not easy to relocation so they had to be set their place at once.

Impression to listen with short time could be described as it was VERY REALISTIC SOUND.
Mid and High can be good at small speakers too, but the midbass to sub-bass is not easy to get realism.
M9's those range was unexperienced sound. Obviously highend.

Edit : Measurement data was excluded at the request of the concerned person.
