24GB RAM for $1.27? That is less than a can of soda in many places. Is this fire salvage or something?

In all seriousness, fascinating post, I thought I was doing well to get a refurbished Lenovo mini-PC at those prices.

it's per ram module. one year warranty on complete systems and 90 days warranty on parts. if a part is faulty they usually ship another one to you.

I think it's going to use a lot of electricity and be very noisy.
Yes, but that's the price to pay if you want to do a lot of AI-type calculations. At least it seems the price to pay doesn't need to be very high in dollars...

naah. i use 2 noctua fans on my server. they only spin up when the cpu temp passes 80 degress celcius. that only happens if i push it real hard. stays around 30 degress under normal conditions. The power draw is 113 watt right now.

Right, so what's keeping the M40 cool then? That can put our 250W on it's own and it's passively cooled, so requires a lot of case airflow. What's the power draw under load?

BTW, i'm not having a go for you buying cheap old data centre kit and trying to get more life out of it, i've done that myself (although I can get the old kit for free as I'm the guy that specifies the new stuff). It's just that stuff designed for DCs is not usually very nice to have in your house - I don't even like it in my garage anymore and I used to have a 42U rack in there.

I got 10 nvidia P106L for 120 dollar. So i don't have a m40. when i tried the P106L and mounted the same kind of noctua fans i use on the cpu, the temp was around 35 idle and 80 under max load. My server is placed in a drawer under the computer desk.

So you've got a server full of old mining cards? I think they're like GTX 1060 level performance, which was my GFX card 6 years ago. The 1060 is now in my son's PC (with a Ryzen 1700X) and it's fine for playing around with Stable Diffusion.

I got 10 of them. Thats 60 gb of vram and 7000 cuda cores that can boost up to 1700 mhz. And i paid 120 dollars for all of them.

Dang, not bad in terms of the VRAM, although the 40xx series has 10K and beyond CUDA cores for around the same money. I'm reading this as you paid $120 each not $12 each...

How are you fitting 10 cards a server with 2 PCI-e x16 3.0 slots?

Never said that. waiting on 6 dell 1200w psu i got cheap. Then i'm going to search for a system or two with more pci-lanes. I have 2 40Gbps hca cards that i'm going to use.
