I could swear that when I bought my Babyface Pro, they told me at the store that there was a breakout box I could attach to it, which would split the 192/24 bandwidth of the optical out, into either 2x 96/24 (stereo), or 4x 48/24 (stereo) S/PDIF ins/outs (or the 88.2/44.1kHz multiples), but in my search this morning I haven't been able to find what they might've been talking about. I've had the thing well over 5 years now, so I could be remembering wrong - I don't think so, though
So I kept looking and all I've been able to find for multiple S/PDIF outs from RME is an entire standalone interface, called the Digiface USB, which I guess is OK, though it costs more than what I thought a simple 192 to 2x96 or 4x48 breakout box would
So apparently there's perfect synchronization...
What I'm thinking of doing is using these sync'd optical outs to two identical DACs (D70 Pro Sabre) to two stereo amplifiers (one to tweeters, other to woofers).
Because the whole USB interface is bypassed (we basically have SPDIF going into the 9039 Pro, which is processing the signal as it receives it, as fast as it runs), since the chips are identical and run at the same speed, because their inputs are phase locked, their outputs should be phase locked too - enough that there shouldn't be audible artifacts,...right?
Right? Or wrong?...
If this way doesn't work, does anyone know a way to use two D70 Pro Sabres for this?
Also, by chance has anyone heard of the RME accessory the sales guy was telling me about? Does it exist? What's it called?
