Hi,

Im looking for advice for which amplifier to choose for Magneplanar MG 12/QRs.
I know they need a lot of power, but the recommendations ive read seem to fluctuate quite a bit in regards to how much they actually need.
I have considered a few different options but would like to hear some advice from people who have extensive experience with amps.

Ill start off by saying that my budget is 400 euros max, and I live in Helsinki, Finland. It would be used as a stereo system and also connected to the TV.

I am most likely looking to purchase a subwoofer later on, so a sub out is preferred. An input for the TV would also be preferred. Streaming would be nice, but Im not sure how to set that up. A Wiim mini connected to the amp? Not sure how realistic these options are in regards to older AVRs and modern amps.

I have considered a few cheaper chinese built amps, but I am not sure whether theyre good/powerful enough to drive the speakers to a decent volume with minimal hiss. I listen on fairly low volume, and the speakers would be in a smaller room (around 2m away).
Units like the O-noorus D4, or smsl AL200, or Topping PA5 II, Fosi V3. I also thought about building an amplifier with Hypex UcD400HG modules, but that is pushing the budget and Im not sure its worth it for me (also the headache).

The secondhand market is definitely an option, but I am somewhat overwhelmed by the amount of choices and dont know enough about amps/AVRs to recognise when something is a good deal/condition. Are there any brands/models that stand out as a good fit for the Maggies?
The main marketplaces that ive found for used AVRs here:

I value bang for buck primarily, and am looking to buy something reliable that sounds clean at relatively low volumes.

Thanks!

I figured I would at least reply since no one else had any information on these types of speakers. I could be wrong but I don't believe that many members in this forum use Magnepans as daily drivers...I'm just guessing though.

I personally don't use them either. My only knowledge with amplifier paintings or just from things I've read..which is they prefer a quality amplifier. I don't know if the WiiM is up to the task. WiiM products are great when needing HDMI & some DSP/EQ/Room Correction. A used or older AVR is practical but it would come down to the quality of the internal amplifier. If you go that route id recommend a used model which has pre-outs to add an external amplifier down the road.

Sorry I couldn't offer much help, Good Luck
