JDS Labs Element III Review (DAC & Amp)

This is intentional, as 0dB corresponds to 2VRMS. I suppose we could expand the limit to 4VRMS, however, the full scale output of 9.3V would likely result in clipping to most receiving equipment. Reach out via email and we can try a custom firmware for you when time allows.

JDS Labs Element III Review (DAC & Amp)

@DJ LP - The HE1000 v2 is rated 35 ohms @ 90 dB/mW, meaning it needs well below 1W to reach dangerous listening levels. For more detail, search for "Power is Volume" on our blog.

JDS Labs Element III Review (DAC & Amp)

@MightEMatt - Thanks for your constructive feedback! You've been a great help in making Element III the best it can be. Yes, the 384k bug was quickly patched. Unexpected feel from your first MK2 knob was indeed an isolated human error: a C-Clip was not installed securely and managed to pass...

    JDS Labs - Subjective 3

    1. Yes, v1.40 is standard for fully assembled Subjective3s and kits. 2. Unlikely, but feel free to ask your preferred retailer. As a reminder, VAT is prepaid to all EU destinations when ordering direct.

JDS Labs Element III Review (DAC & Amp)

Yes, to clarify, we can quickly compile custom builds which alter predefined variables such as Q or available cutoff frequencies (8 options per filter). Changing the filter type is more involved, but possible.

JDS Labs Element III Review (DAC & Amp)

This could potentially be accomplished by changing one of the biquad filters to serve as a notch filter (i.e., repurpose the core currently assigned to treble boost). If there are enough requests, it's something we could explore.

JDS Labs Element III Review (DAC & Amp)

Not critical by any means. There are only minor bug fixes since v2.2.0. Several months ago, a customer in Germany found that playing ASIO audio via USB resulted in momentary disruptions upon sampling rate changes while listening via S/PDIF (despite sampling rate changes occurring on the...

JDS Labs Element III Review (DAC & Amp)

@remlemasiv - Keep in mind everyone's perspective is unique. I find +12dB @ 100Hz enjoyable with HD-650s. Others may prefer less. For instance, Amir applied 3dB @ 75Hz in this review. There is no right answer.

JDS Labs Element III Review (DAC & Amp)

Firmware v2.5.1 is now available, following successful testing which began late last week. Changes include: DSP Performance Updates Optimized DSP stages to achieve static-free PCM 352.8kHz and 384kHz support Adjusted DoP detection state machine within DSP stages to improve performance...

JDS Labs Element III Review (DAC & Amp)

Sorry, Matt. To be quite clear, MK2 knobs can be built to spin loosely like the original knob. The vertical force is related to turning force as well. Push force is firmer than the original. "Loose" turning/pushing force is easily accommodated upon request. Edit: Static at 384 kHz static is a...

JDS Atom Amp+ Review (Headphone Amplifier)

Thanks! Chip based volume controls are appealing. We've found that volume attenuation on the front of modern D/A converters works best, requiring an amp+DAC. ESS's zero-detection during volume adjustments is particularly useful. Relays are one of the most expensive options to consider, at $1-2...

JDS Labs Element III Review (DAC & Amp)

Please keep in mind the entire assembly changed (main chassis, knob, shaft components, and PCBs). Retrofitting an MK2 knob into the original build is not possible. Early Element IIIs used an aluminum 9mm encoder. We'll continue to stock 9mm steel encoders for Element IIIs built prior to June...

JDS Labs Element III Review (DAC & Amp)

Thanks for the feedback! The selectable corner frequency values and Q values are easily altered in code. Custom options can be compiled upon request. Non-volatile memory is the limitation, and we chose to maintain compatibility with the original Element III for this release. Definitely plan to...

JDS Atom Amp+ Review (Headphone Amplifier)

No reply from the above yet, of course, I am weeks late to the discussion. In the meantime, I pulled all RMAs assigned to Atom Amp(+) owners dating back to release: Atom Amp (2018-2020, original Alps RK097 pots) - Several requests for channel balance checks, representing 0.083% of amplifiers...
