I have never used 'APO config files' before and want help to use them for recently purchased Edifier MR4s. The ASR review for the MR4s is here: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/edifier-mr4-review-budget-monitor.29068/
That thread includes a post by Maiky76 with "APO config files" attached. I use the MR4s to stream music from a Windows Laptop on my desk for near field listening while working.

I'd like to start with the "anechoic" EQ files and, if I get that to work, consider circling back for room integration.

I plan to use EqualizerAPO, based on advice in this thread: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/eq-apo-vs-peace-eq-interface.23874/

Any preferred places to download EqualizerAPO?
Maiky76 provides two EQ files--LW or Score. Which should I use?
Any other pointers? Is it just, download and run, or is there more to it?

Edit: I'm enjoying the MR4s stock. They sound nice to me and are *not* fatiguing (my last pair of somewhat cheaper desk top speakers were quite fatiguing).

Anechoic EQ Files don't really work very well for the MR4, as it has different sound modes, non-defeatable tone control knobs, and bad QC on top.

It's likely that the response of Amir's MR4 speaker doesn't match that of your own MR4, and therefore Amir's anechoic EQ is likely not applicable to your own speakers.

Your best bet is to measure the response of your MR4s yourself, then EQ them accordingly.

Some inexpensive tools for this are: HouseCurve iOS App, Micbooster EM258, miniDSP UMIK-1.

SourceForge is the preferred place to download EQApo: https://sourceforge.net/projects/equalizerapo/

If your speakers weren't poorly suited to this sort of anechoic EQ, then I'd choose the LW preset. The Score preset I would use for far field listening.

Any other pointers? Is it just, download and run, or is there more to it?
Download, run, install EQApo onto your DAC (it'll guide you through it), restart PC, import preset using the "Include->Include configuration file" block.

Thanks staticV3! Very helpful. Based upon your advice and hints in the review thread, I'll skip the anechoic EQ.

Can you point me at a beginner's guide for creating/implementing a room/speaker EQ profile? I'd like to use the mic on my laptop if possible/okay. If necessary, I could scrounge up a freestanding mic. Given the low cost of the speakers, i want to avoid spending additional $.

Possible, but not okay I'm afraid.

You need a microphone with known flat frequency response. Your laptop's mic does not qualify.

If you can borrow an iPhone somewhere, then the HouseCurve App is a good option for frequency response measurements on a budget.

If you can't, then the next cheapest option is the Micbooster EM258:

You can plug it into your laptop via an Apple headphone adapter + CTIA headset splitter cable:
