Autotune reality or not?

Autotune, kind of like mixing instrumental tracks but for voice, hear what it does, another reason recordings are not "real" but just recordings. The second video better shows whats going on

In a similar vein, I used to use this track way back when,


The voice processing switches on and off, and on good playback the "electronicised" sections hit one as a sharp contrast to the unprocessed - one is cheesy 'transistory', and the other human; the impact of the difference should be very strong.

Just one more tool in the kit, and like so many others has the ability to turn a marginal voice into something special. The problem occurs when someone has to perform live, I suppose... Many people would be shocked at the amount of processing that goes on from mic to released recording. Instruments, vocals, balance and EQ in the mix, the "house and hall" sound, often happen in the mixing and mastering rooms, not on stage.
