DSD64 to PCM - what settings to use?

So I'm using dBpoweramp to convert.

I tried these settings:

lowpass filter = 30khz
resample = 88.xkhz

and volume on the new file is noticably lower. perhaps I need to apply volume gain?

thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks!

When converting DSD to PCM, there is a caveat about level.

This picture out of an NPC processor (SM5819) datesheet dedicated to convert DSD to PCM is the clearest picture I have found to illustrate the issue. The commentaries in red letters are mine:

Most probably, the 0 dB FS in your work flow is set to correspond to 100 % (+1.0) DSD modulation index (as in DSDGAIN="L" in the picture). Then, you need to apply a gain in order to cover the difference in level between DSD and PCM. But bear in mind that per specification in the "Scarlet Book", DSD is allowed to overmodulate up to 3.1 dB above 0 dB SA-CD. If your DSD files come from SA-CD rips, you must take possible overmodulation into account not to clip in the PCM digital domain or in the subsequent analogue domain.

There is another thing to look at. As registered user I can say that dBPoweramp is a great piece of software for anything else besides DSD64 conversion. The lowpass filter is not able to sufficiently suppress the ultrasonic noise which is inherently part of DSD64. For converting DSD64 to PCM you’ll need a STEEP multi-tap iir filter, also properly designed w.r.t phase shift and group delay.

I’ve investigated possibilities to properly convert DSD64 and came to the conclusion that “AuI ConverteR 48x44” came out best for me. It did a wonderful job converting my 22 DSD64 albums.

Cheers,
JaapD.
