There's an article on the front page of today's NYT titled: "Enter the 50-Ton Concert Hall That Hangs Like a Disco Ball"... At the Shed in Manhattan, audience members can take in live, spatially designed music inside a suspended hall called the Sonic Sphere. https://theshed.org/program/304-sonic-sphere There have been previous versions of this at Burning Man, etc... but this is the latest and greatest according to the designers. Has anyone experience this one or previous versions? Thoughts?

Of course, any of these are dwarfed by the massive MSG $2.3B Sphere being completed in Las Vegas for a fall opening with U2 for 25 shows. The financial prospects look impossible... but they built it... so let's see if "They will come".

"The venue will have a seated capacity of 17,600 or 20,000 standing room."

A sphere is the worst shape for standing waves, but I'm sure there will be plenty of acoustic treatment.

I suspect the standing wave problem has been addressed from the ground up. Rather than acoustic treatment it's acoustic design. This does beg the question, why a sphere?

50 tons isn't that much. A loaded 18 wheeler weighs 40 tons.

Spherical shape is presumably for 360(ish) visuals.
