Analysis of MQA/non-MQA recordings through QRONO d2a

Yes everything is -100 dB in the audible band. I was just using the whole dxd band since that is the reference. I will get a couple phase plots in a little while. edit: here is the comparison DXD and MQA, and then 2nd image shows simple filtering of the DXD gives similar phase shift so that...

Analysis of MQA/non-MQA recordings through QRONO d2a

Here are comeparisons using @mansr's rendered MQA version of the 2L track. 1st image is DXD vs rendered MQA 2nd image is DXD vs 24/88 3rd image is DXD vs 16/88 (flac is a good deal smaller than the MQA, but it nulls better than MQA) 4th image is DXD with minimum phase filter applied vs rendered...

Analysis of MQA/non-MQA recordings through QRONO d2a

There is also a HP filter in the ADC for removing DC. We saw in Mani's loopback thread that this messes up nulling quite a bit.

Analysis of MQA/non-MQA recordings through QRONO d2a

If the original point of this is to look at how well MQA nulls with a master, compared to normal downsampling with linear phase filters, I think we know that MQA will be worse because of the effect of phase distortion. I don't think Bob Stuart would argue about that. If you want to see evidence...

Analysis of MQA/non-MQA recordings through QRONO d2a

Risking being Captain Obvious, I will comment: For #1, The CD and MQACD; Iin your comments you said unfolded but I think you meant folded, or not unfolded, since these were loaded directly into DW right? These match well enough that they would seem to come from the same master. The MQA...

More on Lenbrook's plans for MQA

That is their analysis at 96KHz, not 44KHz or 48KHz. But even so, they point out that their analysis is only for music signals and that "Of course, there can be tonal signals in that frequencyrange from monitors or power supplies". But then they don't say anything more about potential problems...

More on Lenbrook's plans for MQA

I took a little time to try to understand what is going on with FOQUS. The B Spline filters are very simple filters. These are just a cascade of moving average filters. Lots of ADCs use these, and the chip manufacturers usually use the terminology sinc2, sinc3, sinc4 to indicate the order...

    Bluesound Node Icon Streamer Review

I am pretty sure Soundstage is mistaken that there is a discrepancy. What Soundstage is calling a "brick-wall" filter (dark red trace in first attachmentl) only looks that way because of the scaling of the Y axis. If you do a curve trace of that response, and plot on the same scale as Amir's...

    Bluesound Node Icon Streamer Review

I think it is just that the graphs had a very zoomed in Y axis such that it mislead even the writer (and me too). With a full Y axis I think the graphs would have shown the weak filtering we know QRONO is using. Not sharp filters like the text describes. But for clarification it would be better...

    Bluesound Node Icon Streamer Review

i don't have the Icon, just wondering. Also I was stuck thinking that icon's volume control is analog (like my dac/preamp), but if is before the DAC then yeah the overload distortion seems like a non-issue.

    Bluesound Node Icon Streamer Review

On the 0dB signal overload question -- does the Icon have a setting to allow you to create headroom? I assume yes if you use Direc Live, but do you have to pay extra to get that?

    Bluesound Node Icon Streamer Review

My understanding of what they mean by dynamic is just that different filters are applied at different sampling rates. But not applied based on characteristics of the music or anything like that.

    Bluesound Node Icon Streamer Review

Why do some of the Soundstage frequency response graphs show a sharp filter? They note the discrepancy but I didn't see them explain why, if they knew. edit: i am not sure they are sharp filters, even though he calls them 'brick-wall'. The blue trace is 3db down at about 22Khz, same as Amir's graph.

    MQA Update

What gap in knowledge are you talking about? Can you ever say something specific? I think you don't don't know this stuff well enough to identify another person's gaps in knowledge on the subject. Now prove me wrong if you would like and engage on the points that have been made on this thread. I...

    MQA Update

No, but if you read the paper (1st reference given in the Foqus white paper) you can see it is just parroting of that. I don't think PV has a technical background but you could ask him how much training he has on the subject of signals and systems.
