Mac OS X audio driver and SQ

Core Audio is the audio layer of OS X so you can't bypass it. What you can bypass is the system mixer which down/upsamples everything to the samplerate set in audio/MIDI Config. Vox (like most players) has a setting for that called Exclusive Access. This allows the player to send audio in the...

Spotify Premium showing 44.1Khz 16bit in Volumio with Spotify connect 2. Is this really lossless or trickery?

Most MP3's are 44khz (sample rate) and 16bit (bith dept). Where they differ from CD is the bitrate: 1,411.2 kbit/s for 44/16 uncompressed audio down to max 320 kbit/s for MP3.

Streaming ignorant in need of help

The M33 comes with BluOS so it can find and play music shared on a computer or NAS and everything is controlled on the M33 via the BluOS-app. More info on https://bluos.net/ It's essentially a Bluesound Node integrated in the amplifier.

Cheap way to mix two digital audio signals together and output digitally?

If you settle for optical SPDIF, maybe a RME Digiface USB. https://www.rme-audio.de/digiface-usb.html

Actually that guide is far too complex, you don't need to boot from a usb drive. You can use this one, just replace 26 with 27 for the latest version: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=123770.0

Apple's new M1 Mac Mini as source (misses out on silent operation)

I had JRiver (controlled with JRemote) on a Mac Mini i5 and now on a Pi4. The Pi handles it just fine with 2 to 3% CPU load when playing music from memory and a 15% load when decoding into memory. JRemote is just as responsive as it was with the Mac Mini. Downside is you have to install JRiver...

My first Raspberry Pi streamer - Please have a look at the parts list :-) Thank you!

Does the parts list make sense or would you pick different components for "the job"? Yes Will the Raspi be able to run the display AND the Topping E30 using the single Raspberry Pi USB-C power supply? Or should I use a separate Powersupply for the DAC instead of pulling the power from the...
