Sorry I can´t help with that as I have SoundBlaster Command always running. What´s your specs? CPU/RAM? Soundblaster Command is lighweight, IMO. You should not have any performance penalty for leaving it always running. Since you have to switch modes for speakers/headphones, maybe you can try...
