    AsciLab F6B Bookshelf Speaker Review

The low crossover frequency caught my eye immediately, and I wonder how they can do that. Tweeter response doesn’t usually extend that low, especially with low distortion. What is special about their tweeter?

They don’t sound better except that class D can provide lots of power for less price which definitely help the fidelity in some cases.

Are "non-conventional" speaker designs worthwhile, or just gimmicks?

I have a DIY DML speaker that I really like. The acoustics of DML speakers are said to be omnidirectional and diffuse. The sound level vs distance from the speaker is different than regular speakers. The level falls off half as fast. I really like them, the way the sound is more similar all over...

Wiim Pro Trigger Connector is 2.5mm

Beware, the trigger connector on the Wiim Pro is 2.5mm, not the usual 3.5mm. I had to get a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter to make the standard trigger cable work.

WiiM Pro - Review & Measurements (Streamer)

I also get very different results from the Wiim Pro room eq than from REW. Don’t have a clue why.

Are "non-conventional" speaker designs worthwhile, or just gimmicks?

My two cents. I have a system that uses DML speakers, which are omnidirectional and diffuse. They fill the room much better than my traditional speakers. If you move around the room you will notice much less variance than with the traditional box speakers, both due to angle and distance. In some...

WiiM Amp Pro - TPA3255 PFFB | WiFi 6e | Bluetooth 5.3 vs WiiM Amp

No. The response there will be very flat. The ripple in the response is almost entirely the speaker and room effects.

OK, what are you guys buying yourselves for Christmas?

I didn’t mention it, but that’s something that I am hoping for. In the 2008 bust I did well selling, renting and buying after the bust. It might take a longtime this time, and I don’t know if we can wait so long.

OK, what are you guys buying yourselves for Christmas?

I just moved to Sacramento, and we are renting for a while, I order to acquaint ourselves with the area before we buy, but I am thinking about a sound system for the house we buy, with good sound and a high spousal approval factor. The Wiim Amp Pro, that is coming out this fall, seems like a...

Why aren't we bringing the equipment prices down with more published blind test demos?

I think that there’s a level in between top brands and the bottom brands that provides outstanding value. Audiophonics amps with Hypex or Purifi modules comes to mind. Some very inexpensive gear has flawless performance. Like the Wiim Ultra. And the Wiim mini and Pro are better than most of us...

Aging Dynaudio AIR-15 DSP Speakers and repetitive repairs: Convert to external active or buy new L-C-R's?

I recently converted a pair of MTM 2 way active speakers, that I built 25 years ago, to 2.5 way. To do this I replaced the analog filter crossover with a minidsp Flex 8 and used REW for measurements to tune it. Using the Flex 8 was pretty easy, and I am happy with the results. I am using a Rotel...

What study regime does a electrical/electronic engineer go through compared to other disciplines?

I have a BEE and MSEE that I got from 1974-1981. About ten years ago I tutored a transistors and amplifier class at our local college. I was surprised at how much the curriculum had changed, less analog more digital and integrated circuit fabrication.

Not much to see from the front: It’s hanging from the ceiling. I don’t have a photo of the rear because, having just moved, it’s in a box. The rear looks like the front except their are four exciters, about three inches in diameter, near the middle of the panel.
