You guys need to get this thread back on track. I know Miles, Coltrane, Mingus, and other "classics", but I'm pretty new to this jazz stuff, and I need more tips! Keep 'em coming!
Look up Bill Evans start with anything between 58-64 tbh

All great selections Thomas!
Thanks, certainly a decent place to start:)

Jerry mulligan got me into jazz ( his records) , never really got it until I bought his recording ' live fron the village vanguard ' . The fidelity of that record shocked me ( in a good way) . From Jerry I found Ben Webster, they seem to enjoy playing together . Certainly more than many of those collaborative efforts of the period, many are stale and forced imo.

Bud Powell I heard though some crapy system in a record shop, that then naturally led to Bill Evans .. He's my man, his ability to communicate emotively ( I know he's technically brilliant too but I don't have the knowledge to appreciate him technically) at least to me marks him out as the best jazz man in history. His first trio before his Bass player tragically died driving into a tree was his best, at least to my uneducated ears ..

There's loads more, I have a decent jazz collection from that period but those four guys are my stand outs.

Yes, check out Gerry's work with Mel Torme too. Ben Webster is my favorite tenor man. I have tons of his recordings. The Bill Evans recordings with Scott Lafaro are in heavy rotation here.

I'm listening to the Evans trio evening session from June 25th 1961 ( village vanguard) right now .. With Scott of course on bass :) those two 'got on' ..

Oh it's fabulous, the fidelity is great too.
